All About Smiles in Wilmington

As your Wilmington holistic and biological dentist, we take oral health care to a level that focuses on your mind, body, and well-being. Sometimes alternative methods or therapies can be effective and highly beneficial to our patients.

As part of our wide variety of holistic dental services in Wilmington, we always strive to create a partnership for life. The All About Smiles team believes holistic dentistry goes beyond just doing what suits your teeth. We collaborate with a group of strategic partners- from chiropractors to fitness professionals — and believe in acupuncture.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture, in its simplest form as we all know it, either from personal experience or from seeing it on TV, is an alternative medicine and a component of Chinese medicine where thin needles are inserted into strategic body points. The thinking behind all traditional Chinese therapies is to restore Qi (pronounced chee) which is the vital energy to your body’s different meridians. Your Wilmington holistic dentist can show you how these meridians are like branches that connect to various body organs but have connections to your oral health. One of the goals of acupuncture is to stimulate the right points to harmonize energy flows to restore more optimal health.

What’s the Connection Between Acupuncture and Holistic Dentistry?

This study found that acupuncture had many uses in dentistry, especially for patients looking for something without medication or invasive surgery. The research found that acupuncture had the possibility of helping to treat:

Dental pain

• Dental anxiety and gag reflex

• Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain or temporomandibular disorder (TMD)

• TMJ clicking and locking

• Chronic muscle pain or spasm

• Atypical facial pain

• Headache (tension headache, migraine)

• Xerostomia (dry mouth)

• Nerve pain (neuralgia, especially trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathic pain, nerve injury)

There’s much more to learn about what acupuncture is, but more importantly, what it can do for you!
