December can be a hectic, even trying time for some people. With all of the holiday festivities that come about, for some people it’s overwhelming in different ways. It can be a challenge to stay on top of not only your oral health needs, but also your overall well being. It’s because even though this season can be filled with wonder and joy, it’s also a time when stress arises along with our weight.

Let’s take a few minutes in this blog to find ways where we can all help ourselves stay healthy (in mind, body, and spirit) this month and beyond.

Tip #1 – Stress-Free & Not Sleepy

One of the biggest added pressures of the holiday season is stress. It can be caused by the need to travel, the burden of additional costs, and family issues. When you’re stressed you’re less likely to remember or even want to keep up with your regular dental care routine at home. This could put your teeth and gums at risk, especially when there are usually an abundance of sweets and sugar treats this time of year. Tip #3 – Drink & Eat Right

We know everyone always says this during the holidays, eat right and don’t drink too much. But the truth is – it’s true! If you choose to consume alcoholic beverages, try to keep them to a minimum. And don’t forget to brush afterwards, especially drinks like red wine that can stain. It’s always a good idea to stay hydrated with water throughout the holidays. Try to drink about half your body weight in ounces of water each day. When you’re out shopping or doing holiday errands, carry a reusable water bottle with you and fill it up on the go.

With all of the decadent food options that might come you way, try to remember to eat as healthy as possible to avoid weight gain or a disruption in your digestive health. Balance the foods that you indulge on with fruits and veggies for a good supply of vitamins and minerals. Your body and smile will thank you with enriched overall health.
