We love bringing holistic dentistry to Wilmington because we believe in the deep, intrinsic connection between your oral and overall health. What’s happening in your mouth is a direct reflection of what’s occurring elsewhere in your body by up to 90 percent. That’s why when you visit us at our Wilmington holistic dental office, you’ll feel relaxed knowing we always have your best interests at heart and will do everything we can to treat all of you, not just your smile.

At home, we encourage you to embrace the same holistic, mindful approach to life. We also want you to take extra care of your smile so that you don’t have to worry about your teeth in the future. We want your smile to last a lifetime!

Try these three FREE tips designed to keep you and your smile going strong!

#1) Don’t Rush The Brush (or Floss)

Do you know how long you’re supposed to brush your teeth? Go ahead, take a guess. If you said two or three minutes, you’re right! Now, think about your daily brushing routine. How long do you brush your teeth? What about your kids? Sometimes we’re so busy, that we rush to finish brushing to get on with our day or finally get in bed. Take the time to do it right, and it will make a big difference for your oral health as well as your overall health.

Your Wilmington holistic dentist will tell you that flossing is just as important as brushing to keep your mouth free of bacteria that causes cavities and decay. Consider flossing with something called an oral irrigator to remove debris from your mouth without spreading bacteria like with traditional dental floss.

#2) Cut Back on Sugar-Filled Foods and Drinks

We know you’ve probably heard this numerous times before, but we can’t stress enough how important it is to avoid or at least try to cut back on the sugary items included in your diet. It’s especially important to be aware of foods and beverages that contain high fructose corn syrup. This is a form of sugar that loves to coat teeth and hang out in your smile’s cracks and crevices. This can lead to serious decay and deterioration down the road. Try to drink plenty of water too so that your body has an added defense against toxins. Water helps flush them out and keeps your mouth from becoming too dry.

#3) Watch Out for Acids

Sugary foods and beverages can completely throw off your mouth’s natural pH balance and when it’s too low bad bacteria will thrive and can damage your smile thanks to gum disease and cavities. Remember to eat whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean meats to keep your body and smile healthy for years to come.

At our holistic dental office in Wilmington, we have the advanced tools and technology to keep your smile healthy and your body happy. It’s up to you to do the same at home.
